What sync licensing means
One-stop is a promise, not a vibe
What to include in a sync pitch package
Jurisdiction notes
Sync readiness table
| Item | Why it matters | Producer action |
|---|---|---|
| Master ownership | Buyer needs recording permission | Confirm who can sign |
| Publishing splits | All writers may need approval | Register and document shares |
| Samples | Uncleared samples block placements | Clear or replace |
| Stems and edits | Editors need usable deliverables | Prepare instrumental, alt, 15/30/60, sting, stems |
Sync prep steps
- Build a clean cue sheet package: Title, writers, publishers, PROs, IPI/CAE, ISRC, contact, BPM, key, mood, and explicit clearance notes.
- Verify one-stop status: If any writer, publisher, sample, vocalist, or label must approve, do not market it as one-stop.
- Prepare alternates: Instrumental, no-drums, no-melody, 15/30/60 edits, sting, and stems make clearance review easier.
- Negotiate use, media, term, and territory: A web-only brand video is not the same as worldwide paid advertising in perpetuity.
- File licenses with cue sheets: Sync fees, backend royalties, and neighboring rights depend on clean metadata.
- Keep a rejection log: Track why cues were passed over: rights uncertainty, bad edits, weak metadata, wrong mood, or missing instrumental. Fix the system before pitching more.
